Holiday Hoopla
Independence Day - A Day of Celebrations
Fourth of July is a hopping holiday at our house.
In the weeks preceding the actual day, our kids (and my husband) are all practicing various songs and dances for our local Independence Day musical. This year’s theme is “Golden Fifty” and some of the songs echoing off the shower’s walls are “California, Here We Come”, “America the Beautiful”, and “Let There Be Peace On Earth”. It’s a great show, an experience into the spirit of America, and if you live near Huntington Beach, California, it should be on your list of must sees.
Just in case you’re in the area, stop by the LDS Church at 8702 Atlanta Ave. Shows are at 7pm on July 3rd and 8 and 10 am on the 4th. You won’t be disappointed!
In addition to that hoopla, we’ll also be going out to lunch with extended family following the show and then some of us will advance to Fullerton in the evening. Fullerton will be celebrating it’s 19th Annual Community Festival and Fireworks Show, a free celebration with rockabilly music. It gets a little crowded, though, so our family usually ends up a Crestline Park watching the fireworks.
Two lucky children will be accompanying their grandparents to an Angels baseball game. Boy are they excited! The Angels and Wells Fargo put on quite a show for the Fourth, they call it Big Bang Friday!
I won’t be going to Fullerton or Anaheim, however, as I have two little boys that will need to be fast asleep prior to the fireworks extravaganzas. I’m planning on a quiet evening that features firework shows from Disneyland, Angel Stadium, the Queen Mary, and Newport Dunes from our windows upstairs, while listening to some country music and enjoying a shake made with cherry juice, blueberries, and unsweetened almond milk.
If it’s hot, I’ll even turn on the air conditioning.
What are your plans?

It’s been *so* hot here all summer! I wish I could come see your musical, but I don’t live in CA.
I will be having a quiet evening as well. I will probably curl up with a nice book and one of my kitties - he loves to sit by me while I read.

I love books - they are such great companions on quiet nights! Enjoy your kitty.
