Choices Matter

Choice & Responsibility

Remember the days where all you had to worry about was if your outfit was cute enough or if your friends thought you were cool?

Maybe thoughts of weekend plans or t.v. shows played prominent roles in your life?

As a mom, I have a lot that I worry about, especially when it comes to weekend plans.  Everyone is home (although, believe me, they have their share of places to go and things to see).  Wink

In fact, I’ve wondered if the stress of caring for so many people and things had led to my fibromyalgia diagnosis.  I am always searching for ways to simplify.

I watch our daughters struggling with many of these issues (and so many more) and can’t help but feel bad for them. The world is a harsh place. Yet, they aren’t adults. They don’t understand the responsibility that will soon be laid upon them. They don’t really get that the choices they are making today will affect their tomorrows.

I wonder when those connections start to really happen.  I can remember making conscious choices in high school and college that have led to who I am today.  I can remember making choices in junior high, even down to 2nd and 3rd grade, but I don’t know when it really started to matter.  My husband says it matters when they see examples close to home.

I hope that as a parent I am helping my children to set the groundwork for making good choices. I hope they will be able to avoid unnecessary heartache. We teach, we share experiences, we call upon authoritative sources, yet when it all comes down to it, it’s all up to the child.  Who are they going to be?  What will be the sum result of their choices?

In my church we learn that we are all sons and daughters of a Heavenly Father who loves us. Will they remember this - will they remember who they are?
