Burn Easily?

Burning Down The House

People with fibromyalgia should not use the broiler! At least this person shouldn’t… I just finished clearing the smoke out of my kitchen and am now breathing fresh air as I blog.

Tonight my 3 year old son requested chicken and French fries. Luckily for him, I had just purchased fresh chicken and had baked potatoes from the other night in the fridge. I carefully cut the potatoes into wedges, sprayed them with olive oil, dusted them with sea salt, and placed them in the oven, while I prepared the rest of the meal on the stovetop.

Then I got busy fulfilling homework requests, washing dishes, and monitoring children setting the table. Suddenly Avalon, my 13 year said, “Why does it smell like a BBQ?” and I realized that our French fries were becoming charred. I had forgotten to set the timer!  So much for all that time spent in cooking school.:-<  Fortunately the rest of dinner (and most of the potato wedges) were saved and we went on to eat in peace.

However this incident brings to mind the term “fibro fog”. While I hate to admit that I can’t always multi-task, I know it’s a reality - especially while preparing dinner. My husband would call this growth. Anyway “brain fog” is a very real thing for sufferers of fibromyalgia. It’s like suddenly the links aren’t meeting in the brain and things get forgotten, whether they are words or dinner.  I know many of you are thinking - those kind of things happen to me all the time - however it becomes a regular occurrence for people with fibromyalgia.  It’s a very real phenomenon.  Here’s a link to an article about a study done at the University of Michigan about “fibro fog”.  http://www.healingtides.net/fibro_fog.htm

Actually I was on the phone while sprinkling then with seasalt. I had hung up by the time I out them in the oven! Maybe you have a point, though. “Fibro fog” often is a reaction to overstimulation, so the phone, or the children for that matter, could definitely contribute!

My comment should read as, “Actually I was on the phone while sprinkling then with seasalt. I had hung up by the time I put them in the oven! Maybe you have a point, though. “Fibro fog” often is a reaction to overstimulation, so the phone, or the children for that matter, could definitely contribute!” Sorry for the typo.
